The Art of Wire Wrapping
| Wire wrapping is one of the oldest techniques for making jewelry by hand. In wire wrapping, jewelry is made using jewelry wire and findings similar to wire (like head-pins) to make components. Wire components are then connected to one another using mechanical techniques with no soldering or heating of the wire. Frequently, in this approach, a wire is bent into a loop or other decorative shape and then the wire is wrapped around itself to finish the wire component making that loop or decorative shape permanent. Because of this technique for wrapping wire around itself this craft is called wire wrapping. Wire wrapped jewelry techniques date back to thousands of years BC, and currently, wire wrapping techniques are not frequently used for mass produced jewelry because machines can cast jewelry components much faster and cheaper. Artisans are required to make jewelry by hand and in the current mass marketplace machines are less expensive and perhaps more precise to make repeated designs quickly. Wire wrapped designs can be repeated but each piece has its own uniqueness about it as each gemstone or center component that is hand wrapped takes on its own character. So, therefore, each design can never be precisely replicated. |  |

Carrie has always had an interest in fashion, and jewelry that sparkles. She's been happily married for over 27 years, has two grown daughters, one son-in-law and her new granddaughter. Her interest for making jewelry began when her children were young, as something to fill her spare time. She sold her work at an Artisan Boutique, and gave her jewelry as gifts to friends and family. In 2009, her interest and talent gravitated toward wire wrapping, when the hobby was introduced to her by a family member. Today she designs, and custom wraps, nearly anything that is fashionable and will add the perfect accent or flair to your chosen attire. All her work is hand crafted in either 14Kt Gold fill (Rolled Gold), or Sterling Silver and Argentium Sterling Silver (non-tarnishing). Each piece is one of a kind, and has been wrapped with special attention to detail - so that when you purchase a "Rock n' Rolled Gold" design, it is of heirloom quality! |
